INTRODUCING the WENDELL GROUP of
COMPANIES
The Wendell group of companies have their foundations
in the Offshore Oil & Gas industry in New
Zealand, becoming involved over 20 years ago.
Kingston Providoring was the original company
involved with the offshore industry - starting from a
small base in New Plymouth with the supply of
provisions to Seismic Survey vessels, Drill Ships,
Construction vessels and an established Offshore
Platform.
In the late 1980's the opportunity to become more
heavily involved in Vessel Management and Crewing
came about with acquisition of key personnel who had
the necessary qualifications and experience. This
enabled Kingston/Wendell to bid for and obtain
Management and Manning Contracts with international
companies contracting for exploration and in offshore
oil/gas field development
in New Zealand waters. Furthermore, in 1988 Wendell
transferred its offshore catering contracts to
Wendell Catering Services which in turn focused on
further developing the capabilities of their catering
services to both offshore and onshore. Wendell
Catering now provides full catering services,
including accommodation, kitchens, laundries and
recreational areas to the majority of land based
drilling sites.
A Joint Venture partnership - Wendell/Perry was
successful in securing work in 1990 with a
Scandinavian Consortium of Alcatel/STK of Norway and
ABB Cables of Sweden to supply labour along with
Support vessels for the laying of 3 major High
Voltage Direct Current submersed cables across the
Cook Strait, along with 2 Fibre Optic cables. This
gave the company the added opportunity to
successfully bid for and obtain a major contract for
the supply of multi-skilled labour for the
establishment of the Maui B Platform in 1991/92.
This contract with Hereema B.V. of Leiden,
Netherlands involved the crewing of the Heavy Lift
Semi Submersible vessel "Balder" with Marine,
Catering and Construction crews, the AHTS vessels
"Maersk Bonavista" and "Laga" with full Marine crews,
along with a secondary contract to man the "Rocky
Giant" which was being utilised to cover pipelines to
the Maui Platform installations. During this period
Wendell employed over 800 personnel, making it one of
the largest employers in this region of New
Zealand.
Throughout the major operations mentioned above, and
to the present time, Wendell has continued to supply
labour and support services to Offshore Seismic
Survey, Exploration Drill Ships/Semis, and the Maui
'A' and 'B' platforms. Wendell has also diversified
into Onshore drilling support services which also
includes provision of company owned Rig Camps, both
in New Zealand and in South-East Asia.
The provision of Professional Staff has been enhanced
with the acquisition of Artel Corporation which
provides staff recruitment services under its trading
name of 'Stafflink", a well known and respected
employment agency located in New Plymouth.
